About SASHA – Southern Alberta Self-Help Association

The Southern Alberta Self-Help Association (SASHA) promotes the independence of adults with severe and/or persistent mental illness by means of supportive housing, programs, and activities in the city of Lethbridge, AB. We have been operating for over 45 years and are a registered charitable non-profit organization. We operate four residential homes (three of which we own outright) and serve over 35 individuals. With a long-standing Executive Director at the helm, we have a proven track record of supporting our clients as they find stabilization, develop healthy habits and routines, gain autonomy, build independence, and recognize their contributions to the community.

 

Position Description

We are seeking individuals to join our Board of Directors. We are a governance board who meet monthly in-person, in addition to committee meetings scheduled at the discretion of committee chairs. We have a strong culture, diverse skill set, and positive relationship with our Executive Director.

 

We are looking for individuals with expertise in the areas of:

  • Accounting

  • Fundraising, donor relations

  • Communications, marketing, social media

  • Government relations and advocacy

  • Policy and governance

 

We ask that board members:

  • Attend all monthly meetings

  • Be willing to understand and engage in conversations around mental health, homelessness, vulnerable populations, and community relations

  • Be engaged and an open communicator as the Board works together to make the best decisions for SASHA and its clients, staff, and stakeholders

  • Understand their roles and responsibilities

  • Consider taking on an executive position: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer
